Genesis Chapter 1: Chapter Beginning to Verse 8
What you should notice:
- The 1611 editions include chapter summaries.
- The New Cambridge Paragraph Bible is in paragraph form, while the others list each verse and use ¶ paragraph markers to show where paragraph divisions should be (see verse 6). The first system makes for easier reading; the second, easier to locate a specific verse.
- The New Cambridge Paragraph Bible does not use italics, which show where words have been added by the translators. You can see this in verses 2, 4 and 7.
- The spelling used in the 1611 editions is archaic. Notice how u and v are frequently interchanged. The same often occurs with the letters i and j (not seen here). Notice, also, the ſ, which resembles an f with the cross bar removed. This is an archaic form of the lower-case letter s. My experience was that I very quickly became used to the unusual (compared to modern use) letter exchanges.
- The * and † in the 1611 editions, which are indicators of cross references and literal translations from the original language, respectively. Both the 1611 editions and the New Cambridge Paragraph Bible include the literal translations. Only 1611 editions contain the cross references.
- The inconsistent spelling in the 1611 editions (for example, darkeneſſe in verse 4 versus darkneſſe in verse 5).
- The difference in punctuation.

What you should notice:

Verse 19
- The odd symbol ye used in the 1611 editions in place of the.
- The use of all regular capitals for LORD in the 1611 editions, which appears in small caps in other editions. The decorative capitals of the Germanic font, found only in the expensive facsimile bibles, make LORD look quite majestic.
- The use of || to indicate an alternate possible translation. These extremely important notes — considered necessary by the translators — are found only in the 1611 editions and the New Cambridge Paragraph Bible.

Verse 20
- The lack of spacing around the commas of the 1611 editions.
- The use of an before a word beginning with the letter h. The New Cambridge Paragraph Bible has modernized the spelling to conform with modern grammar.

Verse 21
- The use of in stead in the New Cambridge Paragraph Bible and the 1611 editions. The replacement with instead is one of the inappropriate alterations made by the editor of the Oxford Revision. This is a minor example of how the New Cambridge Paragraph Bible adheres more closely to the original translation even though it modernizes the spelling.

Verse 22
- The odd symbol Æ used in place of and in the 1611 editions. Though similar to Ɛ| , it more closely resembles the character shown.

Verse 23
- The use of italics on is in the Oxford Revision, not found in the 1611 editions. Supposedly this useful feature (italics) was never a part of the translation and was added in, as here, by editors — even in the very first printing. The editor of the Oxford Revision made a more thorough analysis and, as a result, identified added words overlooked by previous editors.
- The capitalization of Woman and Man, not present in the 1611 editions. This is a grammatical modernization of spelling.
